Invisible Support Systems

And ode to the stuff that sustains us.

The summer I completely changed my life to begin working in climate change, there were signs all around of the coming shift. A chance encounter, messages in dreams, my instincts a buzz with anticipation. I knew the tide of life was swelling in an unstoppable way.

On my usual afternoon walk one day, I turned the corner and found an apricot tree growing from a construction site.

Perfectly in and out of place.

Amazed fruit could bear in such catastrophe, I stopped to snap this picture. These fuzzy, soft apricots persisted despite being pushed up against graffitied ply wood, rusty scaffolding, and building debris scattered on cracked pavement.

It’s roots were deep in the ground, and stubborn and invisible.

I thought, if this apricot tree can thrive in reconstruction, so can I.

Friend, if you’re reading this and in any sort of life transition, today’s pod episode is for you. It’s a short one meant to offer you some guidelines on how to sustain yourself and how to in turn, sustain others.

Tune in and rest well.

I hope you celebrate all you’ve survived this year.
You deserve to embrace where you’re at and where you’re headed.

A picture from my first visit to Bangkok. These three sisters were deep in negotiation with this vendor. Cheers to the people who help us make decisions and support us.
