A New Beginning

hello again, friend.

Thank you for being here. This newsletter relaunch is a much anticipated moment of rebound in the midst of several life transitions. The last couple of years have stretched me (us) and while I’m (we’re) still in many ways regaining momentum, I’m fully aware that slowing down to savor the now is a must because now will never happen again.

It’s that feeling of impermanence and reverence for the now that has made climate change the top of my list of creative priorities. For the last couple of years, I’ve been researching, having conversations, and exploring my place as a creative director/photographer in the climate movement.

After a year and a half of mentorship, grant applications, clarifying conversations, job interviews, mutual rejections, reshaping, revisioning, unnerving transitions, and so many almost but not quite’s, I’ve come to the realization that I’ve been searching for community in safe, predictable places that don’t quite fit what I’m being called to. It’s time to open the doors to process and let my folks in on the journey.

Welcome to the Awecast!

Why awe?

Awe has been my saving grace in the whirlwind of these last few years. My favorite part is that it shows up in the unexpected. While most tend to seek awe in grandeur, it’s ordinary awe that captivates me the most––the ever-present possibility of amazement nestled between unremarkable moments of daily living. My capacity to experience awe in the midst of a regular day is a visceral reminder that a) I’m alive and b) wonder is available no matter how uncertain life can feel. We deserve to experience awe daily.

I made The Awe Cast (a play on the words ‘awe’ and ‘forecast’) as a space where my complicated feelings about climate change forecasts can coexist with and be influenced by creative conversations, my love for my (our) cultures and our capacity for awe and joy.

The Awe Cast centers awe in the midst of our climate crisis and uncertain futures, not as a form of denial, but as acceptance of what is and as a catalyst to create what needs to be.

I don’t have answers for our climate crisis, only questions and the urge to be in nuanced conversation about how it shifts culture, creativity and connection as we know it. So each letter is an invitation to slow down and find the awe in your everyday because now is all we have and it’s shaping what’s ahead.

I plan to build this community one letter at a time, but this space only grows with you. I hope you join me on this new journey, but if you no longer want to receive these letters please scroll down to unsubscribe and know that I wish you the best always.

What’s next:

  • If you’re an original blue letter newsletter subscriber hey again! To my new subscribers, hayy! A couple years ago I sent a monthly ish newsletter (it was blue) but then pandemic fatigue and life truly hit and I took a much needed break. I’m happy to be back at it and all past letters of mine can be found in the archive section only available to my paid subscribers. Consider becoming a paid subscriber to see the evolution of this newsletter and catch up on where we last left off.

  • I’ll be sharing new letters here about once a month so lookout for my next letter.

  • I’m headed to Costa Rica soon to photograph my second retreat for We Are Full and am looking forward to all the learnings and blessings we’ll experience together. I’ll share pics from it in my next letter!

  • I’ve been photographing and making sustainable mirror jewelry and chatting about not having to ‘find your purpose’ over on Purposerosa. Visit and share with any sustainable/creative curious folks you know.

  • I’ve began hosting a virtual vision workshop/party designed to hold space for women of color to collectively dream up new visions for the future we wanna see. I’m excited to be hosting my next Vision Session on January 22nd for women of color to set their creative and sustainability visions for 2023 and learn my creative process for bringing vision to life. If that’s you or someone you know, share this link and invite them to join. I’m also looking for the right corporate partners to amplify this work, if that’s you hmu.

Please let me know in the comments what you’re looking forward to from this space and what you’ve been re-visioning/growing towards. It’s been a minute and we’re all evolving in astronomical ways (struggling, winning and errrthang in between). Sharing your lived experience helps other readers know we’re all part of a larger movement of expansion. You voice is not only crucial, it’s awe-inspiring to someone else who may have needed affirmation or inspiration.
